OUTSTANDING LAW ENFORCEMENT

Labor Day Weekend proved costly for impaired drivers on Illinois roads.  County-wide law enforcement efforts in Peoria County netted 25 DUI arrests.  Illinois State Police made 17 arrests, Peoria police officers made six arrests and Peoria Heights and Bartonville made one arrest each.  This was a “no-refusal” weekend in Peoria County.  Only four search warrants were required to obtain chemical samples.  In those incidents, once the warrant was obtained, the defendant relented and took a breath test.  Decatur Police Officers also made 13 DUI arrests over the weekend.  Two arrests were upgraded to felonies as the drivers did not have a valid license.  Also in Macon County, the Illinois State Police, Decatur Police and the Macon County Sheriff’s Department made 13 DUI arrests at a roadside safety check that ran from late Friday into Saturday morning (these account for only two of the Decatur Police total above).  Finally, Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies made five DUI arrests over the holiday weekend.  Decatur Police Officers made Macon County roads safer by making nine DUI arrests the weekend of November 7 – 8, 2009.  At least one of the arrestees was charged with aggravated DUI.  Chemical testing was obtained in six of the arrests.
