July 25: Jay Yi, 21, was sentenced by Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta to four years in the IDOC with a recommendation for Boot Camp for Aggravated DUI/Causing Death. The crash occurred in November, 2010 when the defendant lost control of his car while exiting west-bound I-90 at Arlington Heights Road. The car went into the ditch hit a drainage grate and rolled ejecting the defendant and his passenger, Christopher Vega, 20. Vega died from his injuries. The defendant had a BAC of 0.191. While he has no criminal record, his bond was revoked in June for failing to meet with probation officers and twice testing positive for cannabis. If the defendant is accepted into and successfully completes Boot Camp, he will be out of prison in approximately 120 days.

   

October 6: Nicholas A. Wilson, 21, was sentenced by St. Clair County Judge John Baricevic to three years in the IDOC for Aggravated DUI Causing Death. The charges arose from a May 2010 crash which took the life of 65 year-old Frances Koon. The defendant was driving his pickup truck when he crossed the center line of Illinois 13 near Freeburg and crashed head on into Koon’s vehicle killing her. Three passengers in the defendant’s car were also injured in the crash.
